Donuts with orange are a classic

This donut is a little different from the traditional recipe. It has a flour base, sugar and eggs with the unmistakable citrus flavor of orange and is fried.

Remember that this delicious snack is rich in calories and contains a large amount of sugar. So do not make them a part of your regular diet.

Homemade candies actually have higher quality ingredients, but you should not eat too many of them. In addition, you should especially limit your intake if you are following a diet or have an imbalance of cholesterol and triglycerides.

Course of action

  1. To begin with, put sugar and eggs in a large bowl and whip. Then add the juice from the two oranges, orange peel, olive oil and a pinch of salt. Whisk it again to a smooth dough.
  2. Then add the yeast and half of the flour. Stir it with a spoon or spatula and add more flour, little by little, until it is a little difficult to mix it with the spoon. It should be homogeneous and quite thick.
  3. At this point, a work surface is ground and the dough is laid on it. Then add the rest of the flour and knead the dough with your hands – it is much easier. Lubricate your hands with a little oil as it gets sticky. The final result should be smooth and soft.
  4. Wrap the dough in cling film and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  5. Now it’s time to shape the dough. Take enough dough to make a ball of about 5 cm, and press the index finger and thumb together in the middle to make the classic donut hole. Then stretch the dough and gently enlarge the hole to get a ring. Do the same with the rest of the dough.
  6. Now place a pan on the stove with enough olive oil to fry your donut in it. Be careful not to let it get too hot and start cooking your donuts in batches of three when it is hot enough. Turn them so that they are evenly cooked.
  7. Finally, take them off when they are golden brown and place them on a plate covered with baking paper. Let them rest for a few minutes and then they are ready to serve.

There are many types of donuts with orange

This recipe is just the basic one so you can vary some of the ingredients. Especially those related to flavors, toppings and even the cooking method.

As we mentioned above, donuts are ready to eat and delicious as soon as they are fried. As an extra touch, you can sprinkle them with sugar and / or a little crushed cinnamon. In addition, you can always glaze them.

You can also bake them to reduce the fat content. Just follow the same procedure, but bake them for 13 to 15 minutes at 190 degrees.

Place donuts on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper or in a special donut mold before baking them to better define the final shape.

Either way, they will be delicious as breakfast, dessert or a snack between meals. They will be great with an iced tea, a homemade fruit juice or a chocolate milkshake.

Things to keep in mind to get the best results

This recipe is quite easy, so follow it closely. Additionally, there are some ways to prevent you from ruining the end result.

The most important part of the process is to be patient when mixing the ingredients. A smooth, well-mixed dough is the key to this sweet snack, so be sure to knead it properly.

In addition, do not let the form overwhelm you. It should not be too complicated. Just make a strip with the same amount of dough, and gather the two ends to get the shape if you think it’s too hard to make a hole.

The oil should be hot when you start frying and you should maintain the temperature. This is because the donut does not boil in the middle if it is too high and can also burn quickly.

Lastly, do not freeze the dough if you have leftovers. It will stay fine in a glass container or can for about two weeks. Store it in a cool, dry place and enjoy!
